Loose Shoes – Sunday, 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm

Loose Shoes is a VARIETY band from Pekin. The band started as the brain child of Dr. Eric Reinertson a local Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Originally, a smaller group of musicians were assembled to “jam” once a month or so with some classic rock tunes and eventually play for the office Christmas party. Over the course of a couple of years several musicians joined the band from various connections. Some have come and gone and the mix now includes about two or more of everything; singers, keyboards, trumpets, guitars, saxes, trombones, etc. It is hard to say how many people actually are in the band as it keeps growing and we have up to 16 full and part time members.
All of the Loose Shoes members either work or go to school full time in the Pekin area. THREE of the members are local physicians, which occasionally gives rise to the name “the Doctors’ band”. This band has a strong rhythm section that is accented by a full brass combo and several exceptional vocalists. CLASSIC ROCK Covers and songs from the 1940’s to current hits are the predominant presentation material. This is a band you will simply enjoy watching and listening to on a relaxing afternoon in the park.

the august – Sunday, 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Straight from Nashville, Tennessee, “the august” is a force to be reckoned with; an eclectic mix of country meets the windy city. Jacky Dustin is where country should be at with her Tammy Wynette meets Tina Turner twang soul vocals; she is original and should be the voice of Country today. Originally from Chicago, Jacky, Tim Good and Wojtek Krupka moved to Music City in 2009, where they met up with Cameron Clarke. Hence the name of their most recent album, "Dear Chicago, Love Nashville." That CD, as well as their two others can be found on iTunes and other online stores. “the august” brings a little Funk, Blues and Rock and Roll to this tight small band. Jacky is not an auto-tuned twangster; she is the real deal with incredible strength, presence and drive. Not to be outdone, Krupka, principle co-writer with influences like Neil Young and Tom Petty, plays an important role in “the august” sound. The August has shared the stage with a variety of great musicians, including Toby Keith, Lionel Richie, Leon Russell, and The Drive-By Truckers. "Listening to the august is like listening to old Johnny Cash tunes on modern radio: The sound is nostalgic-country complete with its own special twang.” - Chicago Daily Herald. Our 2013 Grand Marshals: Rich and Nancy Kriegsman

Our 2013 Grand Marshals are Rich and Nancy Kriegsman, who were nominated by their children: Katie Bashary, Scott Kriegsman & Amy Meron. Rich and Nancy have been active and involved in Pekin for many years and in many ways.

Currently, Rich is on boards for the Pekin Hospital, Pekin Insurance and Herget Bank. You’ll find the two of them involved with a variety of organizations including the Pekin Civic Chorus, Friends in Harmony, the Transportation Club of Peoria, Grace United Methodist Church Choir and the Pekin Municipal Band. And then there are the past groups, organizations and boards which include the Pekin School District 303 board, the United Way of Pekin and the Pekin Country Club board.

Rich, a 1967 graduate of Pekin High and 1971 graduate of DePauw University, is the president of KMI, Kriegsman Transfer Co. Nancy is a 1970 graduate of Pekin High, a 1974 graduate of the University of Iowa and a retired nurse who last worked at Pekin Community High School. The Kriegsmans were married in 1974 and are the proud grandparents of four granddaughters: Leila, Mai, Mattie & Emmie, who hope to ride in the parade with their grandparents!

The nomination form submitted from the Kriegsman children stated that they are, “very proud of the lessons of volunteering and making your community better that our parents have taught us. Moreover, our parents love our hometown and make strides in all they do to make it a place of pride for future generations carrying on a tradition taught by their parents.” That tradition is evident in that the Kriegsmans are second generation Grand Marshals; Rich’s parents, John and Juanita Kriegsman, served as Grand Marshals in 1984.

We congratulate Rich and Nancy in the well-deserved honor as our 2013 Pekin Marigold Festival Grand Marshals!
