Two Miss Marigold Queens to Compete for Miss Illinois in 2022

 

2021 Miss Marigold Elisabeth Sandoval and 2019 Miss Marigold Sarah Wynn will compete for the 2022 Miss Illinois title this summer.
 

Pekin, IL May 5, 2022- For the first time in known history, two Pekin native women will compete alongside each other for the title of Miss Illinois in June. Reigning 2021 Miss Marigold Elisabeth Sandoval will compete for the first time, representing the community of Pekin and the Pekin Marigold Festival. 2019 Miss Marigold Sarah Wynn will compete for the second time, representing the title of 2021 Miss Blackhawk Valley this year.

Miss Illinois, the official state final to Miss America, was first held in 1927, with four Miss Illinois winners succeeding to win a Miss America title since. Miss Illinois has won more Miss America titles than any other competing state in the history of the organization. The Miss America Organization has served to provide scholarship and leadership opportunities for women.

 


Elisabeth Sandoval will be the fourth woman to compete on behalf of the Pekin Marigold Festival. Sandoval currently attends the University of Illinois as a Political Science and English major with a minor in Theater. She also has a passion for pageantry.

“Competitions like Miss Marigold and Miss Illinois are essentially celebrations of women’s presence in the world,” Sandoval says. “… their talents, identities, intelligence, and passion. They provide young women with opportunities to advocate for their communities, hone their skills, earn scholarships to advance their educations, and form priceless bonds of friendship with other accomplished women.”

 

Sandoval says these organizations have been essential in shaping the person she is today.

 

“It is my great honor to wear the Marigold crown, and I hope that I have been and will continue to be… a worthy role model to the young people of Pekin.”

2022 Busey Bank Parade Line-Up | Pekin Marigold Festival

    The 2022 Marigold Festival Parade Line-Up is posted below.  We are looking forward to this 50 Th celebration! Parade participants must start lining up beginning at 8am and be in their place no later than 9:30am .  Look for the bright orange shirts to locate your line-up area when you get to that general area (see map) REMINDERS: All entries must be pre-registered with the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce including payment and a detailed description of the entry for the parade announcer.  The Parade Committee expressly reserves the right to restrict, limit or reject any entry that is considered potentially disruptive, offensive, or in poor taste and not in keeping with the tradition of the Marigold Festival or does not abide by the rules and regulations. DO NOT start distributing candy, trinkets, etc. until after your entry has passed the 14 th street intersection. These requirements are necessary to ensure safety for all.

    50 th Pekin Marigold Festival Will Be Held This Fall, September 8 th – 11 th   Pekin Marigold Festival announces theme of 2022 Festival: “Back in Time: 50 Years of Marigold Memories.”   Pekin, IL - On September 8 th – 11 th the Pekin Marigold Festival will celebrate its 50 th year honoring Senator Everett Dirksen. This year’s theme, “Back In Time”, will reflect on how the Pekin Marigold Festival has become a cherished tradition in the Central Illinois region. Beloved by his hometown, Pekin hosted the first festival in 1973 as a celebration of the late Senator’s legislative legacy. The Pekin Marigold Festival was named after Senator Dirksen’s love for marigolds, and to this day Pekin is recognized as the Marigold Capital of the World.
