Friday Night Family Fest

 

Pekin Main Street’s annual Friday Night Family Fest will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. on the Courthouse Square in Downtown Pekin. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy this family event to kick-off the Marigold Festival Weekend.
 
Pre-show entertainment will begin on the Pekin Insurance Main Stage at Elizabeth and Capitol Streets at 5:00pm with the band Flying Crazy Monkeyz, followed by the Intentional Praise Band at approximately 6:00. The Pekin’s Got Talent competition will kick off at 7:00 with popular DJ “Dr” Chris Michaels from 104.9 The Wolf hosting. After 2 prior rounds of auditions, the field of contestants has been narrowed down to the top 12. These ten contestants will be competing for cash prizes generously donated by Herget Bank. Contestants are: Gunner Harnett and Lexi Maxwell, Libby Green, Bailey Haynes, Emory Milot, Natalie Gibbs, Aubrey Whyman, Cody Salem, Allison Lowman, Tamera Johnsen, Morning Star and RD Jackson. The judges for the competition are Maggie Carnegie, Felicia Canamore and Dennis Hilst. Miss Marigold Brittany Sherwood and Marigold Grand Marshalls Rich and Nancy Kreigsman will award special awards to their favorite acts. The Papa Murphy’s Fan Favorite Award will also be presented to the contestant who generated the most votes in an in-store contest at Papa Murphy’s Pizza in Pekin. Live music by The Bootstrap Duo will be presented on Court Street in front of the Speakeasy Art Center and Hawaiian Sun Tanning. In the event of inclement weather, Pekin’s Got Talent competition will be held at the Fusion Building’s Teen Center (the old Elk’s lodge) on Sabella Street.  
 
The Unique Twist Balloon Artists will be at the event to entertain and delight children of all ages with their fantastic balloon creations and the fantastic face painters from Wild Style Design Company will be there too. Special guests SpongeBob SquarePants, a Storm Trooper from Star Wars and Rooty the Root Beer Bear will be visiting downtown for this special event. 
 
Families can enjoy great music and entertainment while sampling food from over 15 different food vendors in our 2013 Taste of Tazewell, including pork chop sandwiches, tenderloins, gyros, grilled specialties, Italian beef sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, funnel cakes, ice cream, barbeque, pizza, lemonade shake-ups and more. Food vendors for the 2012 Friday Night Family Fest are: J&J Parks Concessions, Haddad’s Restaurant, Haddad’s Downtown, Boy Scout Troop 62, Alzheimer’s Association, Mike’s Knot Just Ribs, PCHS Choral Department, Cornbelt Concessions, Jeff’s Snack Shack and Papa Murphy’s Take and Bake Pizza. Food vendors will line Court, Capitol and Elizabeth Streets. Our panel of Taste of Tazewell judges will be awarding prizes to food vendors in various categories and the public is invited to join the fun by voting for their favorite food item as well in the Fan Favorite contest.

    The 2022 Marigold Festival Parade Line-Up is posted below.  We are looking forward to this 50 Th celebration! Parade participants must start lining up beginning at 8am and be in their place no later than 9:30am .  Look for the bright orange shirts to locate your line-up area when you get to that general area (see map) REMINDERS: All entries must be pre-registered with the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce including payment and a detailed description of the entry for the parade announcer.  The Parade Committee expressly reserves the right to restrict, limit or reject any entry that is considered potentially disruptive, offensive, or in poor taste and not in keeping with the tradition of the Marigold Festival or does not abide by the rules and regulations. DO NOT start distributing candy, trinkets, etc. until after your entry has passed the 14 th street intersection. These requirements are necessary to ensure safety for all.

 2022 Pekin Marigold Festival Art in the Park Vendor Registration is Now Open! Pekin, IL-   Registrations for Art in the Park have begun! If you are a local art or craft vendor looking for an opportunity to show and sell your work, the Pekin Marigold Festival invites you to register today.  2022 marks the 50th year of the festival. This annual event attracts over 15,000 people to Mineral Springs Park during the second weekend of September! Art in the Park is a unique event in that it showcases vendors who exclusively create  their items. All items have a "hand-crafted" element.  Each year the Festival Committee also releases a souvenir booklet for the festival, with distribution in the thousands. Jim Fairchild truly represents the best of our community. In-line with this year’s theme of “Back in Time: 50 Years of Marigold Memories”, Jim has been a beloved member of the Pekin community who has touched the lives of hundreds of young people here.   Jim and his wife Patty have been married for 47 years and have four children and eight grandchildren. Jim taught at Pekin Community High School for 41 years, first as a history teacher and then as a guidance counselor, retiring in 2010.
